AP US Current Events
Modern World History – Fall
2010
Mr. Ames
As
we embark on our journey through United States History, we will try to stay
reasonably current with the major events of today. On a daily basis, one of you will select an
article from a newspaper (on-line is acceptable) that talks about a major topic
that affects our country. Your article
can be about the end of combat in Iraq, the ongoing credit crunch, the
financial bailout of our economy, the possibility of a “double dip recession,” the
recent appointment of the country’s first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice,
etc. It can also look at ongoing trends
in our country, i.e. bicycle helmet laws, the polarization of the American
political system, etc.. You need to stay
away from sports scores and stories about how the various teams are doing.
Directions: In the days prior to your
assigned “current event” presentation, you will need to find an article in a
current (no older than five days) newspaper, news-magazine, or Internet news
source that interests you and you feel is important. You will need to prepare
your presentation in the proper format prior to the beginning of class.
Presentations will be made at the beginning of each class.
Your presentation will
include the following:
1) What the article is about - a brief summary - and why it is important to the
country in question; 2) A list of three things that you learned about the
country where the event took place; 3) Two specific facts that you learned; and
4) one question that the article raised for you.
Order
of presentations: The presentation order will follow the class list. For Period One Order, click here; for Period
Two, click here.
