Welcome to the Special Education Department at Ipswich High School. This web site is designed
to help you understand the purposes, benefits, procedures, requirements, laws and resources for special education.

This site also describes the impact of Federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines for special education. The site describes the processes and procedures used for identifying and addressing the needs of students eligible for special education.

Our Mission

The mission of the Special Education Department at Ipswich High School is to provide students with tools, knowledge and opportunities to be contributing members of our community and to reach their maximum potential. We inspire all students and provide opportunities for them to achieve high standards of performance for success in life and work. Make something meaningful happen for every student every day.

We provide a wide range of high quality services. Our direct student programming meets the individual needs of students by offering a variety of programs and individual instruction in the least restrictive environment. Programs, services and alternative technology are provided to meet the specific needs of individual students Parent and student involvement is essential to the program. Evaluation of programs is the essential component for continued program improvement.

Our staff, including teachers, teaching assistants and support staff, are experienced and highly qualified professionals and can provide their expertise and up-to date strategies in support students and teachers.

What is Special Education?

Special Education provides individualized instruction to qualified special needs children, birth through 22 years of age. Children, who meet eligibility criteria, receive special education instruction and related services designed to meet their specific education needs. Special Education services are provided only after all resources of the general education program have been considered and utilized.
