FOOD SERVICE

Paul F. Doyon Memorial School

September 2010

Dear Parent/Guardian:

It is our goal to offer your child(ren) healthy and delicious breakfast and lunch choices.  Our meals are prepared in the Doyon Kitchen using whole grains, lean proteins, low-fat dairy and the freshest fruits and vegetables available.   Please see the breakfast and lunch menus posted on the website.   Families at all income levels are feeling the impact of escalating food costs, but help is available!  The School Breakfast and Lunch Program is an excellent resource to help parents stretch their household budget.

The school breakfast and lunch program is available to all students regardless of household income.  Whether a child qualifies for free, reduced price or full priced meals you can feel confident that your child is getting the nutritional boost they need to stay focused throughout their day.  Breakfast costs $1.50 and lunch costs $2.50.  Your child may qualify for free or reduced price meals. Reduced price breakfast costs 30¢, reduced price lunch costs 40¢.   Free and reduced applications are sent home with every student the beginning of the school year or you may download a copy from the website.  If you would like to prepay for purchases you may do so online at www.ipswichschools.org via direct charge to your bank or with a credit card.  If you prefer, cash & checks (made out to Doyon Food Services) are accepted at the school. If your child had a balance from last year the amount will carry over for this year.    We encourage prepayment using our debit account system for purchases to ensure that money is being used for breakfast/lunch purchases and to reduce the incidence of lost or missing money. For the month of September, the prepayment amount for full price lunch is $50.00 and $8.00 for reduced lunch. Please remember to send in additional funds to cover breakfast, extra servings, ice cream or ala-carte milk or juice purchases.   If you prefer that your child not be allowed to purchase breakfast, extra servings, ice cream/frozen treats, please let me know by e-mailing me at wechamberlain@ipswichschools.org or return the copy of the DO NOT ALLOW sheet that was sent home with students the beginning of the school year.

Our prepayment system is in place to keep track of the money that has been prepaid for your child. It is not set up as a billing system.  We ask that parents/guardians keep track of their prepayments and make
additional deposits when necessary.  If you would like to check your child’s account balance please contact me.

If a student comes in to purchase lunch and they have “forgotten” their money or their prepayment account has run out of funds we will allow the student to “charge” their lunch that day with the expectation that the amount will be repaid without delay.  We do not allow “charging” of ice cream/frozen treats or extra servings.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Wendy Chamberlain
