Winthrop: 978-356-8852
The Extended Day Program, also
referred to as EDP, is operated
by the Ipswich Public Schools
under the direction of Mrs.
Wilma Gooby. This program was
created primarily for all
families who need quality care
for their school-aged children
attending Ipswich Public
Schools, before or after school,
as well as early release Thursdays; and during that
part of the day when
Kindergarten is not in session.
The Before and After School
Programs are located at both the
Doyon and Winthrop School
cafeterias. With a $40.00
registration fee, you may
register your child for the
program you select, as long as
space is still available. The
Extended Day Program follows the
school calendar. When school is
in session, EDP is operating.
During all school vacations, EDP
is closed. There is a 10%
tuition reduction for two or more
children from the same family. YOU AND
YOUR CHILD ARE WELCOME TO VISIT
OUR SITES, AND SEE THE FUN
HAPPENING ALL THE TIME!!!
Before School Program
The Before School component of
EDP opens at 7:00 a.m. and
operates until the children are
dismissed for school and sent to
their classrooms at 8:40 a.m.
This convenient program allows
the parents/guardians to leave
for their jobs knowing that
their children are in a safe
environment and will arrive in
school on time. This program is
based in the school cafeteria at
both the Doyon and Winthrop
Schools. The activities are
varied in the morning, and may
range from board games, chess,
checkers, and simple crafts to a
quiet time to complete homework
or review spelling words. On a
two-hour delay, due to inclement
weather, EDP will open at 7:00
a.m. and your child can remain
in the program until the start
of school at 10:40 a.m.,
provided that your child is
scheduled to attend EDP on that
day.
After School Program
The After School component of
EDP begins with the dismissal
after school at 3:00 p.m. and is
open until 6:00 p.m. There is a
late fee of $1.00 per minute if
parents arrive late to meet
their children. All ages from
K-5 gather in the cafeteria at
both the Doyon and Winthrop
Schools. A typical afternoon
progresses like this:
attendance by grade with an
assigned teacher for each group,
bathroom, wash hands, snack
served, outdoor play, crafts,
projects, and homework for
appropriate classes from grade
2-5. After homework, all
students can choose various
table games or art projects of
the day, as well as free
playtime.

Early Release Thursdays
On Early Release Thursdays,
school is dismissed at 1:50 p.m.
every Thursday for teacher
workshops, parent conferences,
and meetings. The Extended Day
Program provides coverage for
registered students from 1:50
p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the
school cafeteria. Children in
grades K-5 are eligible for this
program. We offer a variety of
events to appeal to a wide range
of interests. Previous trips
have included: roller-skating,
radio station visits,
mini-golfing, bowling, and
Boston Duck Tours. Guest visits
have included: paper origami
instruction, karate lessons,
Irish step dancing lessons, tap
dance lessons, guitar lessons,

teacher on the various outings.
