FROM: Joanne M. Cuff, Director of Finance and Operations
DATE: May 12, 2011
SUBJECT: Annual Open Enrollment - Health and Dental Insurance
The open enrollment period for health and dental insurance for the 2011-2012 School Year will be:
May 16, 2011 through May 27, 2011
Open enrollment is the only period during the year that you are allowed to add or change health care plans or add or change dental plans, unless you experience a qualifying event. The new plan year for both health and dental will begin on July 1, 2011. Any changes made will be in effect July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012.
WHAT TO EXPECT FOR THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR:
HEALTH INSURANCE
Although some bargaining units have not yet completed negotioations, the administration anticipates that all employees will move into Tiered Networks for July 1, 2011.
Please note that the current HMO plan will change to Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO Options-Tiered Network, and the current PPO plan will change to Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO Options-Tiered Network, for the 2011-2012 plan year.
The new Tiered Network plans vary from the old by offering different tiers of co-pays, depending on which provider and hospital affiliates you choose. For a summary of the new plans, please be sure to review the Summary of Benefits that is available at the front desk of your school, or on the districtÕs website.
No action is needed in order to facilitate this change. New insurance cards will automatically be sent to your address on file with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Should you not receive these cards by July 1, 2011, please notify Blue Cross Blue Shield at 1-800-782-3675.
DENTAL INSURANCE
Altus Dental insurance options remain unchanged. The 2011-2012 rates have increased by 7%.
Please remember that the Open Enrollment period is the time to review your health and dental coverages and make changes if needed, i.e., add/remove dependents, change your plan, or waive coverage.
Due to the new Federal health care reform law, those employees with dependents under age 26, who are not currently covered under your plan can be added to your policy at this time. Please see the back of this notice for more information.
Payroll deductions for all changes made during open enrollment will occur in June in order for the plan change to take effect on July 1, 2011.
Attached please find the rates that will be in effect during the 2011-2012 School Year.
